Board of Directors
David Crane
Co-Founder, Chairman
David Crane was part of the founding management team of MediVision, Inc., a firm that developed and managed ophthalmic outpatient surgery centers and private surgical practices. At the time, technological innovation was transforming intraocular lens implants from a cumbersome process to a more effective procedure. David recognized the opportunity. He served as MediVision's chief operating officer from 1985 to 1989, when it was acquired by Medical Care International for $85 million. By 1989, MediVision had grown to 14 ambulatory surgery centers and managed 10 clinical practices.
In 1989, David joined MedCath Corporation as a stockholder, member of the board of directors, and its initial Chief Operating Officer, seizing another opportunity as innovation transformed the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Over the next 14 years, MedCath Corporation evolved into a developer and operator of more than a dozen heart hospitals nationwide. Each facility was developed in partnership with area cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons. David assumed the role of president and CEO in January 2000. In July 2001, as CEO David led the company's initial public offering, which raised more than $150 million and gave MedCath Corporation a market capitalization of $450 million.
Earlier in his career, David worked as a business and health care consultant for Bain & Company. David received his bachelor's degree from Yale University and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
